BRINGING to life MY DREAM AT-HOME pilates studio THAT COMBINES AESTHETICS, functionality AND MINDFULNESS.
In January of 2024, I took a leap of faith into a new form of strength training – reformer Pilates. This decision was the first of many adventures I embarked on in my pursuit of living a more mindful, wellness-centered life. If I’m being honest, the only depictions of Pilates culture I had ever seen encompassed primarily thin bodies, so entering a space that felt so exclusive was daunting. Turns out, Pilates is for any body. Pilates is a practice rooted in mindful connection to our mind and body, and encourages everyone to come as you are – without condition. So I did. And I never looked back.
THE PURPOSE:
It’s been over a year since Pilates became an integral part of my wellness journey, and what started off as a hobby has transformed into a lifestyle. For over a year, I traveled 30-45 minutes each way to a Pilates studio for private sessions with my wonderful instructor, Lana. Rain or shine…even snow. What I realized as time had passed was that there was a more efficient option. One that would take time to craft, but would be worth the wait.
My very own at-home PILATES STUDIO.
After our big move in October of last year, I knew I wanted to bring my dream at-home studio to life and I knew exactly where it should be… in this quiet room tucked away on the third floor, with the perfect amount of sunshine peering through the window. Once the equipment arrived, it was time to get styling.
THE PROCESS:
The key aspect of crafting at-home studio was selecting the perfect reformer. A bonus if it was neutral and complimented the aesthetic I had envisioned for the space. After conducting some research on at-home reformers, I learned that Your Reformer offered the most studio-equivalent reformers in breathtaking shades including a creamy ivory with a maple wood frame. After connecting with the brand and sharing my vision, they generously gifted their reformers to bring my dream studio to life.
Something that I have always loved about the idyllic Pilates studios I’ve seen on social media is the individual mirror in front of each reformer. I knew I wanted to do the same in my space. I repurposed Aveena’s gold gilt nursery mirror from Restoration Hardware (thank you angel) and purchased one more to complete the look. The existing light fixture in the space happened to be the perfect light to capture the whimsical essence I wanted the studio to convey. The key elements were a home run.
THE FINISHING TOUCHES:
The beauty of any space lies in the small details. The thoughtful additions that make the surroundings go from feeling simply beautiful to beautifully intentional. So, when brainstorming the final touches, I knew I wanted to focus on how I wanted the studio to make me feel. I added my favorite Marshall speaker for music, florals in a vintage olive vessel for texture and visual interest and some studio essentials including dumbbells, Pilates rings, sanitizing sprays and more.
And just like that, my dream at-home Pilates studio was complete and ready for countless sessions and endless flowing.
THE FUTURE:
I am so excited to continue to share my Pilates journey in my very own space. I have so many ideas and aspirations for the studio and what it can offer to my friends who want a peaceful space to flow, and my audience who enjoy the content of Pilates for all bodies. Stay tuned for more updates on all things Pilates. An exciting new adventure awaits…
